Academics' job is to advance knowledge and to pass knowledge on to students. They can dream.
I have a dream.
I have a dream that one day every academic can concentrate on advancing knowledge and passing knowledge on to students, not how to prove to others that they are concentrating on these activities.
I have a dream that one day every academic can do their research and publish when they feel ready – they don’t have to publish half-baked ideas in a hurry to satisfying assessment targets.
I have a dream that one day every academic can concentrate on teaching students without having to spend 50% of their time filling in forms and participating in meetings so that others can monitor the quality of his teaching.
I have a dream that one day every academic is free from authorities telling them how to prioritise their work and when to do what; only then will great research be done.
Free at last! Free at last!
