Death Road

In 2011, 32,367 people were killed on the road in US; 1,901 in UK. Shouldn't we collectively do something about it?

89 people died in car accidents per day in USA

According to Wikipedia, 32,367 people died in car accidents in the US in 2011. With a population of 311,591,917, 10 people died per 100,000. That also meant 89 people died per day!

5 people died in car accidents per day in UK

According to Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (ROSPA) in Great Britain, 1,901 were killed in 2011. With a population of about 61,600,000, about 3 people died per 100,000. That also meant 5.2 people died per day!

Can't something be done!?

Valuable lives are lost in volume. We were distraught when 2,753 people were killed in the 911 terrorist attack. We must be able to do something to reduce the death number on the road. Solutions may have to be paid for (in terms of money or efficiency). But doing nothing significant doesn't seem to be rational. Given the death toll, road safety should be high on the social agenda. But I don't think it is. Why!?
