Facebook is Watching You

Facebook, WhatsApp, Messenger and Instagram all belong to the same group. The more you use these services, they more they know about you. The chance is: they know you better than you do. This is because you can only know yourself, but they also know who your relatives and friends are, and what they say. They see a bigger picture that you don't see. They can work out sensitive issue about you.

Facebook knows about you

Facebook, WhatsApp, Messenger and Instagram all belong to the same business group. If you regularly use any of them, then Facebook may know you rather well. If you use more than one of them, you are giving them more chances to study you. The more frequently you use them, the more Facebook knows you. There is a good chance that they know you better than you do.

They can work out who you are

They don't forget anything that you have ever said. They remember everything that you have ever posted, including the changes that you have made and posts that you have deleted.

They now how articulate you are. They know how likely you are in voicing your opinions. They know whether you are argumentative.

They know your social network

They know the amount of time you spend on various social networks. You probably don’t know that. They know who you know and nearly know. They know who you agree with. They know who the opinion leaders are in your circle. So they see a bigger picture that you don't see.

They know your relations

They know who your partner is, who your relatives are. They know what you like and don’t like. What your major concerns are, where your interests lie. They know your relationship with your partner, whether your relationship is stable (Here I am referring to the Stable Marriage Problem).

They know your partner too. They know you better than you know each other. They know whether and how often you and your partner respond to the same posts. They know whether you agree with your partner. They probably know whether you’re going to get a divorce before you have made up your mind.

They know your sensitive topics

They can probably work out what the personal or sensitive issues are within your circle. For example, they will notice that you tell A about something that you don't tell the others. With your other activities, they could work out whether it is a topic that is only relevant to A, or whether it is a sensitive topic.

They even have knowledge about your health

They know your sleeping pattern. If your sleeping pattern changes, they will know. They know your mood. With these, plus the things that you say on the above social media, they probably have good knowledge about your health.

Facebook is not a charity

The market capitalization of Facebook in January 2021 is around US$800 billion, according to here. To make a return to its investors, Facebook must sell our data in some form. To return just 6% to their investors, Facebook must generate a net profit of US$48 billion per year, which is bigger than the GDP of many countries.

We don't know what Facebook knows about us. We don't know what they sell. We don't even know whether their understanding of us is correct or not. Are they well regulated? Facebook is wealthy and therefore influential. They have commercial interests. Power corrupts, which is universal truth. So we should be worried.

If you use Twitter, Amazon and Google, they know you too

Twitter is capable to learn some of the above issues too.

Amazon may know you too. They know your shopping, music and films interest.

Google probably knows everything about you through your emails, travel (Google Map), searches and YouTube activities.
